Over the past 2 years we have been testing new LED lights on several different Sightline systems at sites around the world. These new lights are 50% brighter and last 2 to 5 times longer than traditional T5 fluorescent bulbs. An additional bonus is that they use 75% less power, and generate only a quarter of the heat produced by the original T5 bulbs.
All of our new LED lights are mechanically compatible with the original T5 lighting assemblies, so they can be easily installed without major mechanical changes to the vision system. The LED lights no longer require specialized ballasts for operation, so the old ballasts are removed and replaced with LED power supplies, which further reduce the heat and power consumption of the lighting assembly.
The primary advantage of the new LED lights is their longevity: they are virtually zero-maintenance and do not require annual bulb changes like the T5 fluorescents. Fluorescent bulb changes often require physical removal of the lighting assemblies and can cause issues if not done properly (e.g. incorrect bulbs used, broken sockets, incorrect orientation of the light after re-installation, etc.).
LED lights also provide improvements in image quality since the brighter illumination allows for shorter exposure times and reduces blur for fast-moving objects.
Sightline has now created an ‘upgrade kit’ for every one of our vision systems, as well as for third-party vision systems such as Dipix and Lawrence Equipment systems. Another important note is that every new LED light kit comes complete with a 2-year warranty that covers all of the new lighting components.
